Running In High Heels

. . . let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:22

Living with a guilty conscience is much like running a race in high heeled shoes. Too often I opt for experiencing life, doing the everyday things — even the things related to my life both with and without Christ in control — inhibited by the very things I know will keep me from living it fully.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that running a race in high heeled shoes is a bad idea! Likewise, living in guilt transforms my heart into obedience not to the One who brings us freedom, but instead shackles me to the lie (untruth) in the feeling of obligation toward something or someone else. A slave to sin! It is an inhibitor to my freedom in Christ!

Acting on the guilt of not measuring up to the expectations or standards of others further binds me to the slavery of sin. It keeps me from experiencing the freedom in Christ where I find my worth.

The key here is acting out of guilt or having a sense of guilt that dictates my behavior, my decisions. It’s the incorrect measuring rod used to gather acceptance of others and self.

That measurement is found in Christ who is my life!

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 2 Corinthians 3:17
